The Department of Mechanical Engineering within the Faculty of Road Vehicles, Mechatronics and Mechanics of the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca (TUCN), organized from July 1-7, 2024, a week of intensive studies within the "Blended Intensive Program (BIP) on Material Modelling - Testing and Parameter Identification", Spring semester 2024. The program, now in its second edition, is carried out in partnership with the member universities of the European University of Technology, EUT+ alliance.
The program brought together EUT+ student trainees with specialized studies in mechanical, civil, industrial and materials engineering. The first part ran from March 18 to June 28, 2024 and included online meetings with one meeting per week, held by 14 specialized academics. The topics covered properties and structures of different materials under various stress situations, testing methods, as well as modeling and applications in various fields.
The second part of the BIP program consisted of a week of experimental studies in TUCN laboratories. Thus, the international students participating in the program took part in various practical laboratory actions on static and dynamic testing of metals, plastics, additively manufactured materials, composites, etc. The participants were also introduced to a number of research laboratories in the field of mechanics at TUCN. At the same time, the students had the opportunity to visit companies where they interacted with specialists in the field and attended presentations on various topics.
The week's program also included recreational activities in the city of Cluj-Napoca, but also in the surrounding area, which the participants enjoyed in an intercultural and friendly exchange.
The first edition of this BIP was organized in June last year at the University of Applied Sciences Hochschule Darmstadt, Germany, with the participation of international students from the Technical University of Riga (Latvia), Université de Technologie de Troyes (France) and Technical University of Cluj-Napoca (Romania).
The organizers of this year's TUCN edition were Prof. dr. eng. Mircea Dudescu and Assoc. Prof. dr. eng. Radu Chiorean, together with the coordinators of this program, Prof. dr. eng. Thomas Pyttel from Hochschule Mittelhessen and Prof. dr. eng. Brita Pyttel from Hochschule Darmstadt, Germany. The students involved had a valuable exchange of practical knowledge and enjoyed new places and people, appreciating this week as a unique experience. Students' echoes and feedbacks on social media pages were full of enthusiasm and gratitude for everything they experienced and gained during these days.
