Across Europe, research papers are published every day. Yet, brilliant work from smaller or less-visible institutions is often scattered and hidden under dozens of different names. Recognition and influence in science depend not only on quality but also on visibility and coherence.

EUt+ sought a way to ensure that every discovery from its universities carries one shared, unmistakable mark, so that researchers’ work would not risk dilution, fragmented citations, or a weaker voice in global science, and to signal to the world that Europe can act as one.

Thanks to the EUt+ Common Affiliation, every joint paper can now be signed with a double affiliation: the local university and EUt+.

This standardised format avoids ad hoc mentions such as “EUt+, France” and introduces the unified form “European University of Technology, European Union.” Researchers now use a recognised formula, validated institutionally and supported by the nine member universities of the EUt+ alliance. This strengthens citation metrics, improves discoverability in databases, and builds the EUt+ brand as a credible scientific entity.

This decision reflects the understanding that EUt+ represents more than just a network; it signifies a shared strategic vision and a sense of belonging (affectio societatis). Therefore, all publications are encouraged to adopt this double affiliation. The use of the EUt+ affiliation is also encouraged in line with EUt+'s commitment to Open Access.

Application of the common affiliation at member universities

In Romania, at the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca, the Council of Administration (CA), formed of rectors, vice rectors, deans and directors, validated and established conditions and recommendations on the implementation of the common affiliation. Article 1 of the agreement establishes compulsory common affiliation for papers where at least one author is associated with a European Research Institute (ERI) or Group (ERG), and article 2 recommends its use for papers whose authors have no affiliation with any ERI or ERG.

In Germany, at Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences, the Vice President approved the inclusion of the EUt+ Common Affiliation in official publication guidelines, as a strong recommandation to use it.

These decisions have transformed an idea into a clear path forward. Together, EUt+ researchers now work under a single scientific identity.
