In July 2024, students from across the European University of Technology (EUT+) alliance gathered in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, for an exciting and transformative experience at the annual BootCamp hosted by the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca. This week-long event brought together young minds from different cultural backgrounds to immerse themselves in entrepreneurship, innovation, and the unique heritage of Romania.
Throughout the week, participants engaged in a carefully designed programme aimed at fostering creativity, entrepreneurial thinking, and problem-solving skills. One of the most impactful aspects of the event was the series of hands-on workshops, where students were challenged to devise solutions to real-world problems. "The balance between theory and practice in learning how to build and manage a startup was incredibly valuable," noted one participant. By incorporating cutting-edge immersive technologies, these workshops allowed students to apply their knowledge in practical settings, creating an engaging and dynamic learning environment.
Beyond the workshops, the BootCamp provided numerous opportunities for interaction with local entrepreneurs, citizens, and representatives from the Cluj city government. These exchanges helped students better understand the local social and economic landscape, giving them fresh insights into the challenges and opportunities faced by the region. This blend of academic learning and real-world exposure epitomises the EUT+ alliance’s mission to bridge the gap between education and practical experience.
Collaboration was at the heart of the BootCamp. Students from all nine EUT+ partner universities—spanning across Europe—worked in diverse teams to develop entrepreneurial solutions for local challenges. "Collaborating with peers from different cultures and academic backgrounds really pushed us to think outside the box," remarked Khaoula, a UTT student. The teams spent the week brainstorming, refining their ideas, and ultimately presenting their projects in a competitive final pitch session, judged by a panel of experts. This added a sense of achievement and friendly competition, enhancing the students' drive and creativity.
While entrepreneurship was a core focus, the BootCamp also emphasised the importance of cultural exploration. Students were treated to guided tours of Cluj-Napoca and its surrounding areas, giving them the chance to delve into the city’s history, architecture, and traditions. "The cultural immersion was a highlight for me. Learning about Romanian culture, while meeting locals and exploring the city, really added a new dimension to our experience," said one participant. This intercultural exchange helped reinforce the broader mission of the EUT+ network: to encourage understanding and collaboration across Europe.
By the end of the week, students left Cluj-Napoca not only with new entrepreneurial skills but also with a deep appreciation for the cultural diversity within the EUT+ alliance. "This BootCamp has been one of the most enriching experiences of my academic life. The combination of innovation, teamwork, and cultural discovery was truly unique," shared another participant. The event’s collaborative, cross-cultural approach encapsulated the core values of EUT+, offering students a powerful learning opportunity that went beyond the classroom.
The Cluj-Napoca BootCamp is a prime example of how the EUT+ alliance fosters cross-border mobility, collaboration, and hands-on learning. By connecting students from across Europe and encouraging them to think creatively about real-world challenges, EUT+ helps to shape the innovators and leaders of tomorrow.
