“At this stage, it is a great opportunity to expand your group of collaborators for improving the learning experience of EUT+ students”.

“Everything flows” as Heraclitus once said. Marlen I. Vasquez is a Researcher and Teaching Personnel (permanent) at the Department of Chemical Engineering, CUT. Her expertise is in Environmental Toxicology with a passion for natural and engineered water systems and in developing bioanalytical tools and bioindicators to assess the ecological health of water ecosystems. Her research activities are supported by WHO, IAEA, UNDP, EU and national (public and private) funds.

Having an interdisciplinary background and transectoral work experience she envision having a strong component of ecological sustainability in the water sector within the Sustainability Research Institute and the development of transectoral undergraduate programs. She is also involved in the development of the Environmental Engineering cluster of the EUT+ and specifically the ecological health section of this cluster.

She says about her involvement in EUt+:“At this stage, it is a great opportunity to expand your group of collaborators for improving the learning experience of EUT+ students”. She enjoys designing new undergraduate and postgraduate programs, but also exchanging good practices on existing courses. “From my enrollment, I have been a learner of EUT+ by taking a course offered by h_da in statistics with R and an educator by organizing mobilities to/from RTU”, she comments.

Marlen I. Vasquez is a quite a hybrid being a Biologist, acquiring an interdisciplinary and interdepartmental MSc in Environment and Development, followed by a PhD in Environmental Engineering but trained by Chemical Engineers. The core of her studies was done in Greece and Cyprus, but she has had the honour of working in 4 countries (Germany, Italy, Greece and the UK). She is a part of the Oikotoxicologia Research group, a dynamic and interdisciplinary research hub advancing in the field of ecological health surveillance using molecular ecology tools.
