Lou Grimal is a PhD student representative at the EUt+. She took part in the early stages of the development of EUt+ initiative in 2019 and is willing to defend EUt+ values on the long run.
She contributes to the animation of PhD students’ groups by coordinating and supporting the annual PhD students’ seminar on sustainability. For instance, she animated a workshop on how to review scientific documents. Those events are crucial to develop PhD students’ network and consolidate EUt+ identity.
"I deeply believe in the possibility of creating a European community of young researchers working on the link between technology and ecological issues to transform our society. We are inheriting an ecologically destroyed world, overpassing 4 of the 9 planetary boundaries. We must now redefine the role of research in the Anthropocene and explore new ways to practice science."
She holds an engineering diploma on informational systems and a masters degree on sustainable development. She is currently in the last year of her PhD, which examines the coherence between a strong sustainable culture and technical tools. Her work is anchored into sustainable sciences, more precisely on the link between socio-technical tools and ecological foundations. She is working with ecovillages and engineers engaged into sustainability.
Lou is also one of the founders of European Universities Community initiative, which aims at improving cooperation between the different European alliances and help students having their voice heard within alliances. She has co-written the Manifesto on the future of Universities in Europe, especially on the theme of sustainability and the need for more cooperation (and less competition!) among alliances.
"As we stated in the Student Memorandum of Understanding in February 2019, let’s think human and all living beings first."
