The rectors and presidents of the eight member universities of the European University of Technology „EUt+” visited the European institutions in Brussels, the European Parliament and the European Commission on Tuesday 14 June 2022. In the first part of the visit, EUt+ representatives had a meeting with members of the European Parliament from the Committee on Culture, Education, Youth and Sport - Marcos Ros Sempere and Dace Melbarde and from the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy - Iskra Mihaylova, Lina Galvez Munoz and Tsvetelina Penkova.
The highlight of the visit was the meeting of the EUt+ Alliance Steering Board with the European Commissioner for Education, Culture, Youth and Sport, @Mariya Gabriel. During this meeting, the state of implementation of the project was detailed, with emphasis on the objectives that distinguish the European University of Technology among the European University alliances. The proposed steps to develop a fully integrated European system of education, research and university management were also discussed, with reference to the European accreditation of new programmes leading to a single European curriculum and diploma.
Mariya Gabriel thanked Beatriz Miguel Hernández , Timothée Toury, Pierre Koch, Panayiotis Zaphiris, Leonīds Ribickis, Vasile Țopa, Arnd Steinmetz, David FitzPatrick; and Ivan Kralov for their discussions. She praised the Alliance for its achievements: for instance a european Master in ingeneering, european laboratories of research. She emphasised the interesting approach of embrassing technological and scientific challenges by a society-driven and humanistic technological innovation, embedding social science in the curricula of students.
She will be attentive to the question of legal question to be adressed to reach a european diploma and a durable status for European Universities and is expecting Eut+ to contribute by its experimentation to this path toward a european space od education and research.
